NAIROBI—Garissa Senator Muhammad Yusuf Haji has been honoured as Ambassador for Peace, by the Universal Peace Federation in the UK during the Global Peace Summit held recently in London.

The Senator was last week awarded with the World Desire Peace Ambassador for his efforts towards promotion of peace in Kenya and the Horn of Africa at large at the event held in London in the United Kingdom.

A long serving administrator, the 78-year old Garissa senator has endeared himself to peace-building efforts whereby during his tenure as a provincial commissioner, then under President Moi‘s administration he used his negotiation skills to calm warring factions in the late 1990s.

Yusuf Haji last year teamed up with former National Assembly Speaker Francis ole Kaparo to spearhead peace-building efforts among Degodia and Garre communities living in Wajir and Mandera counties.

The Universal Peace Federation, which works in Consultative Status with the United Nations acknowledges as Ambassadors for Peace, recognizes individuals whose lives exemplify the ideals of living for the sake of others, and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote universal moral values.
