TURKANA—Governors from seven drought-ravaged counties today attended Frontier Counties Development Council meeting in Lodwar town
chaired by Mandera Governor, Ali Roba.
The meeting was hosted by Turkana Governor, Josephalt Nanok and attended by Devolution CS, Eugene Wamalwa.
The meeting discussed mitigation measures for the ravaging drought to cushion vulnerable persons from starvation.
Roba said the National Government should change strategy and invest in water and irrigation projects of small and medium capacities to improve food production and security in ASAL counties.
“We have seen great results from small scale interventions by counties. We know mega dams are expensive and difficult to sustain but small scale water projects are posting life impacts on communities,” he said.
The Governors will hold discussions on development issues of common concern to the the bloc and engage with the donor community who support the development of the FCDC counties.
They will also visit a host of projects in Turkana to experience investments in food security.
Other governors in attendance included Amb. Mohamed Abdi (wajir), Mahamud Ali (Marsabit), Prof. John Lonyangapuo of West Pokot and FCDC CEO Mohmmed Guleid.
