Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed. She has reminded all school principals that they are charged with the responsibility of smoking out sex predators from their institutions.

NAIROBI—Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has ordered ban of public events in schools, including visiting days with effect from next week. She termed the move as a mean to ensure uninterrupted focus on students.

Speaking during the annual Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) conference in Mombasa, Ms Mohamed said her ministry will ensure that there is sufficient surveillance at all examination centres to work with teams from multi agency government officials.

“Principals must efficiently and effectively administer the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination due in a few months. Continue preparing candidates adequately to improve the results of this year’s examinations,” Ms Mohamed said.

The CS stated that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has already released the 2018 National Examinations calendar and only candidates will remain in school as the other learners close for the November/December holiday.

Amina reminded the over 8,000 secondary school principals that they are all charged with the responsibility of leading their respective secondary schools in the country and therefore must smokeout the pedophiles in school.

She told them as the bosses of their schools, they are in a position to understand in details what goes on in their institutions.

“As school heads you know who these criminal are and you must root them out. Don’t allow them ruin the future of our children,” Amina stated.

She noted that cases of rape, sexual harassment and abuse, teacher-student sex, violence against students, alcohol and drug use have been rampant recently in schools.

Lydia Nzomo, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chairperson  said existence of unregistered teachers in schools has been identified as a major loophole and cause of the current spate of sexual harassment in learning institutions.
