NAIROBI—Missing Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed Mohamud’s body was on Saturday found in a morgue in Kirinyaga county, a week after he went missing.

The businessman was last seen on the evening of May 13 at an entertainment lounge in Nairobi’s Lavington area.

His vehicle was later found burnt in Kibiku area in Ngong, Kajiado County.

On Sunday, activist Boniface Mwangi accused the State of orchestrating the murder of the late businessman and the subsequent cover-up process.

“Mohamud Bashir Mohammed was kidnapped in Nairobi which has government CCTV, murdered and dumped in Kirinyaga. His car was burnt and the shell disappeared. It’s only the government who can pull off such an operation

“He was killed by the state, the biggest question is why?” Mwangi passed.

Mohamud’s family has vowed to pursue justice even as mystery hovers around his death.

“Even as Bashir rests, the family shall not rest until justice has been served and those responsible for his death brought to book,” his family said in a statement.

His remains were traced to Kerugoya level 5 Hospital in Kirinyaga County on Saturday.

Family Lawyer Charles Madowo, in a statement, confirmed the sad news to the press.

“It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bashir Mohamed Mohamud informs you that the body of Bashir was found earlier today at Kerugoya level 5 hospital,” the statement said in part.

The press statement further requested privacy on behalf of the family even as burial arrangements are underway.
