MANDERA—Three men were Friday evening arrested for allegedly robbing and killing a middle-aged woman identified as Dunia Adan Umuro. The incident happened on Friday morning in Teso Ramo, a village in Gither ward, Mandera West sub-county.

Speaking at his office, the Deputy County Commissioner, Labat Kipkoech mentioned that the three killed the woman to prevent her from exposing them.

“The incident took place at the wee hours of Thursday night and it seemed that there was a business rivalry between the deceased and the three suspects,” he said.

The suspects made away with a box containing their victim’s savings.

Mr Kipkoech mentioned that the three suspects namely:  Mohamed Ibrahim, Alio Maalim Edin and Abdi Somo Hussein were arrested in Dandu , recovering sh 127,700 and 10,190 Ethiopian Bir.

Kipkoech stated that that a neighbor, who was woken up by the noise, heard the deceased calling one of them while pleading not to kill her.

“One of the suspects decided to open up and share exactly what happened and took the police to scene of the incident and spot  where they hid the box,” Kipkoech said.

The three suspects will be arraigned at a  Moyale court on Monday morning.

Speaking to Kulan Post in Takaba, a relative to the deceased who sought anonymity said that one of the suspects was a brother-in-law to the late Mrs Dunia.

The locals eulogized the deceased as a promising young entrepreneur. She left behind five children with the youngest being six months old.
