SOMALIA—A top Al-shabaab official is reported to have surrendered to the  Somali National  Army (SNA) in Somalia.

Ahmed Mohammed, NSA commander, said that Bishar Mumin  Afrah yielded at Hiran in Central Somalia.

“The shabaab man surrendered to the 52th  Division of the SNA in Buloburte town, 200km North of Mogadishu,”General Tredishe told the Somali National News Agency (Sonna).

“Afrah claimed to have desolated Al-Shabaab and submitted himself to the SNA, shouldered with him two AK47 violating rifles and large amounts of ammunition,” said General Tredishe.

In February, Somali President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo offered pardon to any Al-Shabaab member who renounces the jihadist ideology. He promised a demobilisation and reintergration into the society.

The Shabaab were yet to react to the claims.

Meanwhile, a lower court in Nugal in Puntland on Wednesday sentenced eight people to varying jail terms for possessing alcoholic drinks.

A total of nine people, eight men and one woman, appeared in the court, all of them accused of being involved in the illegal trading.

After the hearing, the court decided to sentence two of the accused to five years in prison for being the owners of the business while six others were given six months prison terms each and the woman was released because the court had no enough enough evidence against her.
