MOGADISHU – Tusmo party has welcomed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s call for a national dialogue to address Somalia’s political and security challenges.
President Mohamud announced the invitation of political stakeholders from across Somalia to engage in a national dialogue on the country’s future.
Dr. Abdullahi Ali, a presidential candidate for Jubaland State for the Tusmo party, welcomed the move, describing it as a commendable and necessary step.
He emphasized that for the dialogue to be effective, it must be broad-based and inclusive, incorporating political leaders, civil society representatives, and other key stakeholders.
Dr. Ali stressed that a meaningful national conversation cannot be limited to a small group of politicians but must reflect the diverse voices and interests of the Somali people.
He called on President Mohamud to take the appropriate next steps in ensuring that the dialogue remains credible and transparent.
“It is imperative that this initiative is broad-based, incorporating political leaders, civil society representatives, and other key stakeholders,” said Dr. Ali.
He underscored the importance of maintaining a strong focus on Somalia’s ongoing fight against extremism.
Dr. Ali reiterated that the war against Al-Shabaab remains a national priority and warned that the national dialogue must not detract from efforts to defeat terrorism.
He urged all stakeholders participating in the discussions to unequivocally support ongoing security operations.
In his statement seen by Kulan Post, Dr. Ali also cautioned against any attempt to use the dialogue as a means to shield leaders from accountability.
“Figures such as Ahmed Madobe and others should not exploit the process to evade responsibility for governance failures,” he said.
He criticized leaders who have neglected to uphold credible elections, foster inclusive political processes, or respect the fundamental principles of power transfer.
“The Somali people deserve leadership that is accountable and committed to democratic principles,” Dr. Ali said.
He insisted that the national dialogue must not result in a political settlement that serves only a select few but should instead prioritize the collective interests of the nation.
Dr. Ali reaffirmed his commitment to supporting any initiative that strengthens Somalia’s democracy, promotes stability, and ensures that governance serves the interests of all citizens.
He urged that the national conversation be characterized by fairness, transparency, and accountability to meet the expectations of the Somali people.
