Two Cuban doctors abducted in Mandera just a day after anti-radicalision campaign launched

MANDERA—Mandera leaders have condemned the abduction of two Cuban doctors in Mandera Town by unknown assailants.

Addressing the press in Mandera Town, Governor Ali Roba said the county and it’s people would do anything to get back the doctors.

“The Public of Mandera are determined to do whatever it’s within their means, as community to try and also engage the structures of communities that leave across the borders to help them get this people safely back to their homes,” he said.

He was echoed by the county Woman representatives, Amina Gedow who termed the incident shocking.

The abduction of two cuban doctors in Mandera, come a day Mandera County goverment launched the Mandera County Action Plan (MCAP) to prevent and counter violent extremism in Mandera County.

In a statement, police spokesman, Charles Owino states that,”Two Cuban doctors left their residence to the Mandera Hospital in a County Government vehicle under the escort of two police officers from the Administration Police Service and the Kenya Police Service. Along the way, they were blocked by two Toyota Probox cars. Unfortunately, the APS officer was shot at and fatally wounded.

The criminals commandeered the car and occupants across the border to Somalia. So far, the County Government vehicle has been recovered and the driver is being held for interrogation.”
