BEIJING – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar has called for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Kenya and China.

He highlighted the deepening relationship between the two nations and their ruling parties.

Sen. Omar emphasized the shared values between the UDA and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

He was speaking at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where he led a UDA delegation in a meeting with the China-Africa Friendship Group of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Wednesday.

“There is so much in common between our parties, especially in our mutual commitment to inclusivity,” said Omar.

“We are particularly inspired by China’s consultative model—a platform where diverse voices come together in pursuit of the common good. Kenya, too, is nurturing a culture of dialogue, consensus, and inclusion,” he added.

The meeting was hosted by CPPCC Vice Chairman Mu Hong and other senior officials of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, underscoring the high-level attention accorded to Kenya-China relations.

CPPCC Vice Chairman Hong reaffirmed China’s commitment to implementing agreements made with Kenya ahead of President William Ruto’s upcoming State visit to China.

He commended the UDA party for the warm reception extended to Li Xi during his recent high-level visit to Kenya, noting it as a reflection of Kenya’s hospitality and growing diplomatic ties.

Mr. Hong also celebrated the achievements of the most recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, stating that the implementation of its resolutions is already underway.

He said President Ruto’s planned visit will mark a significant milestone as the first by an African leader since the summit, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.

“Kenya is a vibrant East African economy and a leading partner in the FOCAC framework,” Hong said.

“We deeply appreciate Kenya’s continued support for the One China policy and remain committed to enhancing cooperation in areas such as security, poverty alleviation, and modernization.”

The leaders underscored the importance of party-to-party collaboration, with the CPC and UDA aiming to promote trust, governance, and mutual development through joint initiatives.

The officials pledged to maintain close communication and exchange experiences on governance, development, and capacity building.

The UDA delegation’s visit is part of efforts to solidify ideological and developmental ties between Kenya and China, a growing trend of diplomatic engagement through political party diplomacy.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the dominant political force in the People’s Republic of China, having held power since the country’s establishment in 1949 by Mao Zedong.

It is the sole governing party that has shaped China’s political system and directed its transformation into one of the world’s leading economies and global influencers.

President William Ruto is scheduled to embark on an official state to China in a bid to usher in a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

The nations are looking to expand cooperation in infrastructure, trade, and regional stability.
