United Democratic Movement (UDM) party leader and Mandera Senator Ali Ibrahim Roba has reaffirmed the unity, stability, and long-term strategic direction of the party, amid ongoing realignments within the political coalition landscape.
Senator Roba on emphasized that UDM remains “strong, united, and unwavering” in its vision, despite recent decisions that may have sparked questions among its base after a meeting with President William Ruto.
“Our party remains firm in its identity, clear in our purpose, and resolute in the strategic path we have chosen,” said the senator.
“Every decision we make is grounded in the long-term survival, growth, and influence of UDM today and for the years ahead.”
Senator Roba acknowledged that the dynamics of coalition politics often require calculated compromises that may appear uncomfortable in the short term.
However, he described such decisions as signs of “mature, strategic leadership” rather than weakness.
“These are deliberate moves made jointly for the greater good of the coalition,” he said, adding that while they may not be immediately understood, they are crucial for future gains.
The statement comes at a time of heightened political negotiations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Various parties are repositioning themselves within broader coalitions.
“In the short term, we enhance the strategic health and unity of the coalition,” he said. “In the long term, we unlock new avenues for growth, visibility, and influence for the coalition as a whole and especially for UDM.”

Roba declared that UDM is a vital participant in the political process of the republic and its future.
“Our course is deliberate, our focus is sharp, and our future is secure… our eyes are fixed on 2027 and beyond.”
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) was established in 1999 with the aim of offering a progressive, inclusive political alternative rooted in national unity and good governance.
Initially formed by a group of reform-minded politicians, the party remained largely inactive for several years until it re-emerged as a significant political player in the run-up to the 2022 general elections.
Under the leadership of Ali Roba—former Governor and current Senator for Mandera County UDM has grown in prominence, particularly in Northern Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley.
The party made headlines in 2022 when it shifted allegiance from the Azimio la Umoja coalition to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance shortly after the general election, playing a crucial role in the formation of the current government.
Since then, UDM has positioned itself as a key voice for marginalized regions, advocating for development, devolution, and equitable national representation.
Its strong focus on stability and long-term planning remain its main pillars to chart a course that blends political realism with bold ambition.
