NAIROBI—MPs allied to DP William Ruto have expressed unease about the pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen says the rifts have been caused by clique of “individuals serving within government at the Office of the President”.

“There are cracks in Jubilee and that is a fact. If the President does not address these issues, then let him be prepared to build a wall,” he said

“He never invited Ruto in handshake and actually belittled him including by terming him as a man loitering aimlessly and so on. He never consulted him in lifestyle audit. This insincerity must stop,” added Murkomen.

The outspoken senator said there were people who believe that the president has achieved what he wanted and now he does not need anybody, including Mr Ruto.

Mr Kenyatta’s directive for lifestyle audit on all public servants in the on the ongoing corruption purge, Mr Murkomen says, has made matters worse.

“I stand by what I have said. If there is one who thinks otherwise, let them come out and oppose. The so-called lifestyle audit is a scheme by powerful Jubilee mandarins at State House, who are spending sleepless nights to make sure that Ruto does not vie for presidency in 2022,” he noted.

Similar sentiments have been echoed by Nandi senator Samson Cherargei.

In a country that is so divided politically, he said, lifestyle audit, can be used by politicians to dim their rivals’ ambitions.
