WAJIR—President Uhuru Kenyatta  lauded Wajir Governor, Ahmed Abdullahi for a job well done, saying the funds remitted to the county is being properly utilized.

Speaking at Wajir Stadium in his second day in the region, Uhuru said he was marveled at the infrastructural development in the county.

“The tarmac road is a testament that funds are being well utelised,” Uhuru said to the cheers of the mammoth crowd that turn out to listen to his speech .

Ahead of his arrival at the stadium, the scene of the address looked more like a political rally than the usual presidential visit. People carried banners and wore t-shirts with pictures of president Uhuru and Wajir Governor, perhaps signaling possible political marriage ahead of the next year’s General Elections.

While in Wajir on Friday, the president started his visit with the commissioning of the Wajir Airport road and later,he  opened the newly constructed male hostels at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Wajir. He also launched the Digital Literacy Program at Wajir Catholic Primary School where he said the program was fit for national roll-out.

At Wajir Stadium, president Uhuru said the tarmacking of Mandera-Wajir-Garissa road has already started from Mandera, adding he would launch the construction of Garissa-Modogashe road and then Modogashe-Wajir road when he visits Garissa County on Saturday.

In his Wajir visit, the president seemed bounded by the presidential role of visiting all parts of the country, but at a personal level and judging from the number of projects he launched, his visit was aimed at Mandera and Garissa counties.

Meanwhile, the President directed the minister of interior, Joseph Nkaissery to look into the issue of national Identity card. “I was touched by the story of a young man I met today at Huduma Centre. He told me he’s not gotten his national ID two months after he applied. The lack of ID is causing that young man a lot of problems. Giving ID to the youths is their right,” Uhuru said. He similarly directed Nkaissery to return to Wajir to solve the ID problem and the border disputes in the county. President Uhuru also pledged that he would get the Wajir Power station a generator that can produce 700 kilowatt a day next week as the town awaits to be connected to the national grid.

A sh 9 billion mega dam will be constructed in Buna sub-county, the president declared.

Wajir was a CORD turf and five of the Mp’s, the senator, the woman representative and the governor are all members of the ODM party. The leaders declared Friday that that they have defected to the ruling Jubilee while accusing the Opposition of lacking vision.
