Mandera North MP, Bashir Abdullahi (Left) and Mandera Governor, Cpt Ali Roba direct Wabar Abdille Abdi to his seat during a reception for the visiting king of the Degodia clan.

MANDERA—Mandera leaders led by the county governor earlier today welcomed the King of Degodia in the last leg of his maiden visit to Kenya’s Nothern counties of Wajir and Mandera.

Wabar Abdille Abdi left Wajir in the morning and headed to Mandera County, an area where repeated clan clashes was experienced over the last seven years and as recently as October when 14 people were killed by clan bandits in cold blood.

Mandera North MP, Bashir Abdullahi termed the visit as timely, saying he hopes the King will champion sustainable, lasting peace.

“The King is not your usual leader,” Bashir said, adding that: “He’s a figure of unity and can use his standing and influence to achieve peace.”

Mandera Governor asked Wabar Abdille to spearhead reconciliation efforts together with the the Sultan of Garre across the border in Ethiopia where the spark that cause clan skirmished between the two clans usually emanates from.

“You have seen the kind of reception you have been accorded by everyone: leaders and residents since you arrived. We ask you to use that platform to achieve peace,” Roba said.

Wabar Abdille will stay in Mandera for few days and will thereafter embark on his journey back to his home country of Ethiopia.
