Muslims in Kakamega County have been called upon to strive to form united, strong and respected business enterprises to improve on their livelihood.
These calls were made by the Kakamega based businessman Abdalla Ismail Wanyama who said that Islam encourages its adherents to venture into halal business hence it is of utmost important that Muslims in the region keep abreast of the changing times and venture into businesses to economically empower themselves for sustainability.
Speaking recently during the distribution of kiosks to the Muslim community, Abdalla noted that besides seeking profits, wealth and improving their living standards, Muslims at the same time should not forget their religious obligations such as the daily prayers and paying the zakat.
The kiosks project is being spearheaded by the county government of Kakamega and it is aimed to economically empower local communities through business ventures. Already over 2000 small scale traders and business community have benefited from the project with each trader provided with a kiosk at a subsidized rate of Sh2000.
Abdalla pointed out that the initiative was driven by the need to address the socio-economic challenges stressing that the project will help improve the living standards and economically empower local Muslims for sustainability. ”This kiosk project will help provide opportunities for local Muslims to engage in trade and businesses leading to a positive bearing on the society,” he said.
Abdalla called on established Muslim traders and business communities to provide guidance and support to upcoming traders for them to prosper in their new endeavours.
