NAIROBI—Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has provided a status report to Parliament on the ongoing investigations into the disappearance of Mr. Hussain Abdirahman Mohamed, the manager of Wajir Huduma Centre, who has been missing since July 8, 2025.
CS Murkomen was responding to a question raised by Wajir North MP Ibrahim Sane. The CS confirmed that Mr. Hussain, a former Assistant County Commissioner, was last seen attending an official function presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service before proceeding on annual leave.
His family reported him missing on July 10 at Wajir Police Station.
CS Murkomen said a missing person signal was immediately circulated to all police formations across Wajir County, and investigators visited both his residence and workplace to collect statements.
Testimonies from family members and colleagues indicated that attempts to reach him after July 8 were unsuccessful, with his phone switched off from the following day.
His wife, Ms. Fatuma Adam confirmed that their last conversation took place on the night of July 8, during which he promised to call back.
Investigations have since involved Safaricom’s Law Enforcement Liaison Office, which provided call data records confirming his last phone activity was with his wife within Wajir town.
Medical reports from Wajir County Referral Hospital also confirmed that Mr. Hussain had a history of chronic mental health conditions and was under regular treatment.
However, inquiries with local Tabligh Jamaat leaders confirmed that he had not joined any religious missions during the period of his disappearance.
CS Murkomen assured Parliament that the case remains active under Police Inquiry File No. 4 of 2025. He stressed that Mr. Hussain is not in custody or detained in any police facility and that ongoing efforts include tracing his known associates, frequent locations, and continued liaison with his relatives and colleagues.
On broader security concerns, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen noted that Wajir North has a dedicated police response team, reinforced by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and community policing initiatives.
This is to address abduction and missing person cases, including a separate case involving Isa Abule Mohamed, missing for two years.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary urged members of the public with any information on Mr. Hussain’s whereabouts to share it with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
