Kulan PostWAJIR—Residents in wajir have welcomed Jambo jet’s move to start flights from Nairobi to Wajir and vice versa.
They believe that with more flight companies venturing into the business, flying to wajir will not only be convenient but faster and cheaper too.
Businesspeople have described Jambo jet’s move as a huge innovatory for wajir people and promised to support the move.
“We are happy Jambo jet will soon be flying to our great county,” Hussein Abdi, a businessman told Kulan post on phone.
Wajir and North Eastern at large were marginalized by successive governments, traveling by road between the three counties is tiresome and hectic as the road is bumpy, dusty and rough.
The buses plying the road charge between Sh2,000 to Sh2,500 and it takes 12 hours from Nairobi.
“Traveling to and from wajir for Sh5,200 is not expensive to me, this is an advantage when you compare it with road,” Halima, a resident in wajir noted.
Passengers are charged Sh6,000 one way by other companies such as Skywhat airlines, Fly sax and Rududku. Jambo jet will now charge Sh5,200.
Fathi Ahmed, a travel agency owner in Eastleigh has welcomed the move and hopes to get more customers.
” A return ticket to wajir for that amount is good news for us, we hope customers will now flock into our offices,” he told Kulan Post.
Willem Hondius, the Jambojet Chief Executive Officer on Tuesday said the first flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to wajir will be on 14th of February.
The airline is targeting the growing domestic travel market to consolidate its position in Kenya’s foremost low cost airline market.
The flights will be flying to wajir on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 in the morning and will be flying back to Nairobi on Wednesdays and Fridays.
