#AlShabaab claims its fighters are still inside the ill-fated Kulbiyow camp. The militant further claimed that they are moving army vehicles and weapons from the camp.
The militants told the Reuters news agency that it killed 57 Kenyan soldiers.
However, the Kenyan military spokesman Lt-Col Njuguna denied the claims, maintaining that the operation was still ongoing.
“The operation is still active. We are receiving updates,” Njuguna told the Reuters.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has condemned the attack, calling for the troops to be puled out of Somalia.
The Kulbiyow attack comes barely a year after such a dawn attack on El Adde killed over 150 Kenyan troops, although independent figures put the toll well over 200.
