NAIROBI—President Uhuru Kenyatta has noted that Jubilee party has numbers both in the Senate and National Assembly.

Speaking at State House on Monday in a meeting with Kamba leaders, Uhuru dared National Super Alliance MPs and senators to make good of their threat to skip first sitting of the 12th Parliament on Tuesday.

“You will see us opening the parliament and start passing bills. They have the right to come or not this makes zero difference.” said President Kenyatta.

Some opposition legislators have threatened to keep off Mr Kenyatta’s address, questioning his mandate in the face of repeat presidential election on October 17.

He said that the last senate could not pass laws because of the balancing that existed.

“Today in the senate with 41 elected and nominated senators we can do business without a single member of the NASA present.” said Mr.Kenyatta.

Uhuru said they can even change the constitution without the Opposition.

“In the National Assembly, we are only 13 members shy, meaning we can even change the constitution without them. What is he going to do? What can he do?” he posed.

The ruling coalition and its friendly parties have a total of 193 of the 349 MPs and woman MPs who will make up the next Parliament.

He added that if they skip parliament the people who will lose out are the ones they represent because their issues won’t be articulated.
