Speaking when he attended a fundraiser to raise funds for the Al Huda Madarasa in Wajir town, Joho said 2022 would be the time for the Muslims to lead.

“What is stopping us from vying for the presidency? Only time,” the Mombasa governor said.

“We have the political will and the support to lead this great country,” he added to the rapturous applaud from the public.

Majority of voters at Wajir County voted for the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy, CORD led by Raila Odinga and the county is considered an Orange turf.

In his maiden visit to Wajir County on May, leaders for the area said they would support Jubilee, but President Uhuru Kenyatta remained adamant about the declaration, saying similar utterances made ahead of the last general election did not translate into an actual support at the ballot.

“How could you support a government that caused the death and disappearance our youth?” Joho asked, saying Jubilee was rejected in Coast and that the same should be replicated here in Northeastern counties.

Suna MP Junet Mohamed called on the locals to embrace the party, saying it supported devolution.

“Just imagine how Wajir would have looked had devolution been properly rolled out,” Junet said.

Wajir County governor Ahmed Abdullahi dispelled rumours that he was seeking Jubilee ticket, saying he would remain in ODM.

“Why would I go to Jubilee when I have achieved much while subscribed to the opposition CORD,” Governor Ahmed said.

Other leaders present were deputy governor Abdihafid Sheikh Yarrow,Wajir West MP  Abdikadir Ore, Wajir Women Representative  Fatuma Ibrahim, MP Kisauni  Ramadhan Bedzimba, MP Suna East Junet Mohammed, Homabay Women Representative Hon. Gladys Wanga and Rosemary Odinga
