MANDERA—Lafey Member of Parliament Shaaban Issak has rejected a decision by the Murale Council of Elders that barred him from defending his Lafey constituency seat.

Shaaban insists that he will seek re-election in 2017 polls.

Flanked by his community elders ,Shaaban exuded confidence that he will retain his seat, saying he has all it takes to get reelected.

On their part ,the elders accused Murale Sultanate of favoritism and engaging in partisan politics. They vowed to stand with Mr. Shaaban.

“He remains our MP come rain or shine,” Said Olaad, a Murule elders declared.

Shaaban said his track record will speak for him. “My development record will be my weapon in the 2017 election,” he said.

Lafey MP has officially joined anti -elder camp led by Mandera governor Ali Roba who earlier refused to heed the call of his elders after he was asked not to defend his seat. The anti-elders camp popularly known as Firfirsa are set to announce their political gameplan on Jan 7th.
