The said families were displaced after tana river burst its banks due to ongoing rains that is pounding most of mount Kenya regions which is the source of the giant river.

The items that were distributed to the families include blankets, mosquito nets, tents, bar soap, utensils and some relief fods

 The familie are belived to have set camps at undeveloped plots next to ATC and Young Muslim children home within Garissa town.

Speaking after presiding over the distribution of the items, Garissa county commissioner James Kianda said that the county government will provide clean safe drinking water to the families and also ensure that the hygiene conditions are favourable for human inhabitation.

“We will indulge all necessary stake holders  to provide toilets and collect cabbage within these camps. They will also ensure that health needs of the people in these camps are taken care of,” Kianda said.

 He further urged the families to stay at the camps until the on going rains to subside and when they will be advised to go back to their homes.

Kianda also appealed to other aid agencies to join in providing relief assistance to the displaced families and other flood victims.
