TANA RIVER—Detectives from Tana River and Garissa counties have launched manhunt over Thursday’s killings in Madogo, Tana River County where two night guards were killed in cold-blood.
The two men were said to have been guards at a hardware along the Garissa – Mwingi highway. The outlet belongs to a local businessman, Mohamed Noor.
The incident caused tension that resulted in property destruction and disruption of transport, causing standstill in the busy road for over six hours
According to a local who spoke to Kulan Post, similar incident in 2014 still remains unsolved.
Security officials told local residents to remain calm as they embark on investigations to reveal the intent of the crime and the perpetrators behind the looting spree during the riots.
“We will not allow anarchy in this county we will carry our investigation and bring the perpetrators to book,” a security official said.
On Friday, leaders across the county led by area women representative convened a security meeting to discuss the matter.
They also condemned the cold-blood killings and pleaded with the security forces to carry out the investigations with an ultimatum “to bring the perpetrators to book within seven days.”
“We urge the police to speed up the investigations as we will not allow such killings to happen again in Tana River county,” a joint statement said.
The area MCA called on the locals to return to their homes as normalcy has returned.
“We are appealing to the residents to return to their homes as normalcy has been restored,” he said.
