NAIROBI—Police in Nairobi are battling rowdy youths who barricaded parts of Southern by-pass and Kibera.
They were reacting to the violent arrest of Miguna Miguna, the self-declared general of the now outlawed National Resistance Movement.
Traffic along the road has been disrupted and motorists advised to use alternative routes.
The self-declared National Resistance Movement general Miguna Miguna was arrested by police at his Runda home on Friday morning. The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said that Miguna was arrested for administering an illegal oath and being a member of NRM, a movement that has since been outlawed by the Government.
The police said his remarks during a NASA press conference on Thursday urging people to burn portraits of Uhuru Kenyatta who was democratically elected were the reasons for his arrest.
Miguna and Ruaraka Member of Parliament Tom Joseph Kajwang’ were at the centre of the Uhuru Park event and are said to have played a major role in Raila’s oath ceremony.
After Kajwang’s arrest, Miguna dared Interior CS Fred Mating’i to go for him.
“Matiang’i if you are looking for me, I am ready and I have been ready since I was a teenager,” he said.
