NAIROBI—The election of Kenya’s representatives in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) was cocluded by the Members of Parliament on Thursday.

The Somali community is the biggest winner as it is the only community to get three slots in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Former wajir woman representative  Fatuma Ibrahim  got 143 votes, Adan Noor from Mandera received 192 votes while former Balambala Member of Parliament got 234 votes.

The Senate and Members of the National Assembly voted for their preferred candidates through a secret ballot.

Other members who got elected are National Supper Alliance deputy leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka who received 309 votes and Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Oginga (243)

Jubilee party elected former Kamukunji Member of Parliament Simon Mbugwa with 286 votes together with Florence Jemutai (252), former Igembe south MP Mpuri Aburi (208) and Wanjiku Muhia (180).

This has ended  a thorough lobbying by the people who were originally nominated by their parent parties. On Wednesday around 8pm, Aloise Lekulo, the chief seargent at arm was forced to ask everyone to leave the Parliament except the MPs as the lobbying got intense.

Former NCIC  commission chair, Charles Nyachae of Jubilee party and National Supper Alliance Chief Executive Officer are among the big name losers.

They will be sworn into office on Monday next week at the East African Community Headquarters at Arusha in Tanzania. The assembly will officially start its business in January next year.
