MANDERA—Three miners have been killed by suspected Al Shabaab militants on Thursday evening in quarry in Shimbir Fatuma, Elwak, Mandera County.
Confirming the incident, a Mandera South government official said two others were also injured in the attack.
“The incident happened at area called Shimbir Fatuma which is about 65 kilometres from the insecure Kenya-Somalia border and that miners have been staying in the quarries” the government official stated in confidence.
The quaryy workers had earlier defied government orders to vacate the area for insecurity grounds and now the gov’t balmes the quarry workers for not heeding gov’t calls.
