Rukia Mohamed, 70 and Mohamud Bishar, 10, have died of gunshot wounds shortly after the 11 pm attack.
Six-year old Halima is currently nursing life-threatening gunshot injuries at Wajir Referral Hospital in Wajir town after stray bullet pierced through her tiny body.
Lying still on her hospital bed at the pediatric ward, Halima survives on a blood transfusion as she awaits an airlift on Monday—over 30 hours after the attack—to Kenyatta Hospital in Nairobi, more than 700 kilometers to the South-West of Wajir town.
On Sunday morning, Mohamud Gaciye was discharged after he was treated for light gunshot wounds.
No security officer was reachable for comment.
Eldas sub-county administrator Hassan Adow Ali together with Adow Kusow and Abey Daud were the first officials to respond to the emergency. They mobilized transportation of the victims to Wajir town.
It’s not the first time such an attack occurred along the border between Eldas and Wajir North Constituencies.
The two warring clans—Degodia in Eldas and Ajurans in Wajir North—are fighting over boundary dispute that remains unresolved four months after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered investigation into all border related disputes in the county during his May visit to Wajir County.
