A journalist killed in front of his children in Somalia

A television journalist was killed by a car bomb in Somalia. This is the fifth journalist in the war torn country to be killed this year. His relatives said that, the attack happened in front of his kids.

The journalist was working for Kalsan television. Mohammad Ibrahim Gabow was on a break from work to spend time with his children.

It was on Monday afternoon when he got out of his house that a bomb that was planted under the driver’s seat ripped through the vehicle. He succumbed of the wounds in hospital.

“He was a hardworking, professional and dedicated journalist” a sorrowful cousin Mohammad Abdirahman said. “I do not understand why they took his life in front of his children, this group may finish us all.”

Although no one has claimed to have carried out the attack, journalist have always been targeted by groups who think, they  do not gate favorable coverage.

Ibrahim Mohammad, a police officer confirmed that an explosive device was indeed attached under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalist, over forty five Somali journalist were murdered between 2007 and 2015.Somalia is among the most dangerous countries for journalist. An average of six journalists are killed in Somalia each year.
