Al Shabab planning Garissa University style attack in Nairobi—Police

NAIROBI—Somali militant group Al Shabab is planning to attack a learning institution within the country and most likely in Narobi, the police department has said.

In a circular released late on Friday, the Nairobi County Criminal Investigation Officer Nickolas Kamwende said Al Shabab’s “Somali Amniyat” wing in Mandera has sent a militant to stage deadly attack in Nairobi.

“…an attack on a learning institution within Nairobi employing Garissa University attack method using women attackers,” Kamwende said.

The attacker are already in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighnourhood in preparation for the attack, he added.

“The operative in Mandera is expected to deliver the logistical support before the end of January,” the circular that was copied to all the police stations and the Flying Squad units within the Nairobi County, said said in part.

“Remain vigilant and take appropriate actions,” the officer urged.
