NAIROBI—Two candidates vying to clinch Garissa Township seat are set to team up in a bid to unseat the incumbent, Aden Barre Duale.

Farah Maalim and Captain Abdi Yare—Wiper and Amani Congress deputy party leaders respectively—will form an alliance to challenge the Majority Leader in the August polls.

The formation of the alliance will see either of the candidates; Farah or Abdi Yare surrender his bid for the most formidable candidate to challenge Duale.

“I and my brother will agree and form a strong team to reclaim Garissa Township from some people,”Cpt Abdi said  on Wednesday during the launch of NASA super alliance at the Bomas of Kenya where he was invited to speak as the deputy party leader of Amani.

He hinted that he would give way to Farah Maalim to take on Duale if the situation demands.

“I am ready for everything  with my brother from Wiper (Farah),”Cpt Abdi Yare added.

Their coming together was evident last Friday when he was spotted with Farah at the entrance of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation headquarters in Kiambu where he accompanied the former deputy speaker in protest to a leaked audio recording where Duale could be overheard telling the youths to orgernise in groups to stop the Kamba community in Garissa town from registering as area voters.

“Those two guys are not in my league,” Aden Barre told RTN TV in an interview on Thursday when he was asked if he is threatened by any of the candidates seeking to unseat him in the coming polls.

He maintained that he is a performer and not a tribal, adding that one more term as an MP will transform Garissa for the better.

He reiterated that he would not be wasting much time on local politics but would strive for Jubilee re-election.

“I play in the league of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester while they are still held up in the Gor Mahia league,” Duale said.

On Saturday, Mombasa governor Ali Joho is expected in Garissa to campaign with Maalim.
