BREAKING NEWS

NAIROBI—-Former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan is reported dead.

Multiple sources within the UN system and Ghanaian media have confirmed that Mr. Annan died in Switzerland, August 18,Saturday morning after a short illness.

He served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006.

Among his achievements while at the UN was when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.

He was the first black African to take up the role of the world’s top diplomat.

Annan played a significant role in Kenya, when he led a Panel of Eminent African Personalities convened by the African Union in the negotiations that led to a peace deal between retired President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

This resulted to the end of the post-election mayhem in 2008.

The National Accord signed on February 28, 2008, at the height of the post poll chaos, saw the birth of the Grand Coalition Government led by the two leaders.
