WAJIR—Details of who the victim of today’s knife violence, Fatuma Ibrahim is slowly beginning to emerge as the country is shocked by her situation.
According to a friend, Ms Hibaq Abdullahi a former trader at the camel-milk market in Garsey-Qoftu location in Wajir County, she described her as a hardworking woman who trekked for kilometers to provide for her four young children. Her husband, Mohamed Deeq, a light-skinned, middle-aged man of short-stature does not have a job, but survives with the little he gets from whatever work he gets his hands on. Hibaq says the couples did not show any sign of disagreement, adding that they led a quite life.
“They went about their daily life just as any other family woulds until what happened a day ago when he forcefully slid a knife into her jaw,” she said, adding that, “May be they had their own differences of which we never happened to notice.”
Following the outrage on the social media where her photo was widely shared, the police launched a manhunt to nab the man behind the attack. He was arrested Thursday morning as confirmed by the Wajir East OCPD, Benson Makumbi.

After spending more than six hours at the women’s ward at Wajir Referral Hospital where she was admitted, surgeons at the facility agreed unanimously that her condition would worsen if not properly handle at a well-equipped hospital. They recommended that she be referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
She was airlifted to Nairobi at 6:30 PM Thursday and was admitted at 8 in the evening.
