NAIROBI—Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital have successfully removed the knife that was lodged on Fatuma’s cheek, Lilly Koros, the Chief Executive Officer at Kenyatta National Hospital has confirmed.

She said Fatuma, a mother of four from Khorof-Harar location in Wajir County was recuperating at the hospital. She was admitted Thursday evening and was operated on mid-night Friday, more than 20 hours after she was attacked by her husband of more than eight years, Mohamed Deeq who has since been arrested as confirmed to Kulan Post by Wajir East OCPD, Benson Makumbi.

After the doctors at Wajir Referral hospital said they could not attempt to remove the knife that was lodged deep into her jaw, Amref sent an emergency evacuation plane and airlifted Fatuma to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

According to her brother-in-law, Mohamud, her husband appeared on drugs when he attacked his wife Wednesday evening. “He had two knives and stabbed her (Fatuma) seven times,” he said.

That particular incident has shocked the nation and will put the spotlight on the increasing cases of domestic violence in the country.
