NYERI—President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga will share a stage for the first time since they were cleared by the elections agency to vie for the top job during Madaraka Day celebrations in Nyeri today.

Raila will be accompanied by National Supper Alliance (NASA) principals.

More than 20,000 people will be present at the ceremony—the first to be held in Mount Kenya region since independence and both party leaders are expected to join Kenyans at Kabiru-ini-stadium.

Earlier this week, both leaders were cleared by the Independent Electoral Commission and Boundaries to be able to run for the presidency in the August elections and have not shared a platform ever since.

“I will be among Kenyans who will attend the National celebrations marking the 54th year since Kenya attained self rule,” said Mr Odinga on Wednesday.

The Madaraka Day celebration is happening at Nyeri for the first time as part of President Uhuru’s directive to mark national fetes at different parts in the country.
