NAIROBI—At least 10,000 teachers who have been promoted by the Teachers Service Commission will get a pay rise effective this month, head of the communications Kihumba Kamotho ha said.
Kimotho also said that the government has set aside funds for the implementation of the collective bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed with teacher’s union whose first phase will be implemented in July.
Preparation for implementation of the Collective Bargaining agreements which was signed with Kenya National Union of post Primary Education Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) are underway and the first phase of the CBAs will be implemented from July 1,2017,”he said.
In August 2016, 5,171 teachers were promoted by the commission to job group H and J and through competitive interviews, another 1,305 were promoted to job groups P,Q and R.
TSC stopped promoting teachers based on years of service after they launched a new recruitment policy last year.
