WAJIR—The Bahgeri community in Wajir has endorsed former one-time Wajir South member of Parliament Mohamud Sirat Dayow to contest for Wajir South MP.

At a meeting at Abakorey, the elders introduced Mohamud as their preferred candidate. He was later approved at a subsequent meeting at Dadajabula.

“I am here to seek your blessing for a second term and to end the projects that I initiated in my first term,” Mohamed said.

Mohamud served as the Wajir South legislator in the tenth Parliament between 13th October 2010 to the 4th March 2013 following lengthy court battle disputing the election result of the 2017 election where the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) declared the current Wajir County senator Abdirahman Ali Hassan as the winner.

While serving as the area MP in his two year stint, Mohamud served in the Defence and Foreign Relations Committee, Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Committee and in the Departmental Committee on Education, Research And Technology as a member.

“We remember what you achieved in the two years you held the leadership of this great constituency,” Bishar Mohamed Saleeban said.

Speaking at the meeting, Mohamed Madow recounted Mohamud’s  2 year session as the area MP saying the projects he initiated were the same in use today.

“The boreholes you sunk at your first term is what is cushioning us from the ravaging droughts today,” he said
