EACC Boss dismisses Nation newspaper report on Governor Nathif’s Sh 5.2 billion account.

NAIROBI—A letter from the EACC, CEO, Halakhe D.Wako to Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama Adam has stated that the commission did not freeze Nathif’s account dismissing earlier report by the  Nation Daily paper.

The commission undertook investigations on the alleged misappropriation of Ksh 5.2 billion after receiving reports supported by a bank statement  from a complaint on Monday 26th June 2017.

“I have not discussed the content of this or any other ‘active’ investigation by the commission with any media outlet and therefore the news circulated by the Nation paper are plainly false.”read the letter.

Considering the magnitude of the allegation, the commission set up a high level of inquiry committee tasked with thoroughly examining the documents and expeditiously investigating the allegations.

The inquiry committee kick started the investigation and, following legal requirements, obtained a court order on 29th June 2017 and First Community Bank Wabera branch was served with the court order the following day.

“The commission therefore deeply regrets the anxiety and frustration this has caused and strongly assures you that it will remain impartial, fair and just in carrying out its constitutional mandate.” read another part of the letter

Mr. Wako on this letter also said the commission is considering taking legal action against the paper for quoting him in the story.
