GARISSA—A man in his mid 20 was yesterday arraigned in court for conning Mpesa agents who are operating within the central business area of Garissa town.

The accused, Abdirizak Hassan Ibrahim appeared before the court twice for the same offense early this month but was released on bail.

Mr Abdirizack was accused of conning between 11th and 13th of this month where he fraudulently obtained a total of sh 161,000 from different Mpesa agents.

The court heard that Abdirizak allegedly conned sh 32,000 from Rashid Hassan, sh 29,000 from Assad Sheikh and sh 100,000 from Omar Dolal totaling at 161,000.

The victims told the court that the perpetrator came to the Mpesa shops disguised as customer requesting for deposit to his Mpesa account.

“Abdirizack here would ask for a deposit from the Mpesa agents and after the transaction is made, he pretends to receive a call and vanishes without paying the agents the amount he received in text,” the prosecution said in its submission.

The prosecution said that Abdirizak usually targets the busy Mpesa shops.

However the accused who was appearing before judge Cosmas Mundu denied the charges.

The accused will be remanded at Garissa Gk prison until November 22nd when the case will be heard.
