NAIROBI—Garissa Women legislator now insists she would name her unborn child after the deputy president, causing mixed reactions from Kenyans following the unprecedented comment.

Anab Gure, the Garissa Women Representative is the talk of town after she declared that her unborn child will be named after William Ruto. The legislator was speaking at Tharaka Niithi during a rally of “Inua Mama”, a group of women legislators allied to the deputy president.

“Do you see this?” Anab said, pointing at her pregnancy.

“I will name it after Ruto,” she added, drawing cheer from her colleagues.

On Sunday evening, she reiterated her previous comment while reacting to a tweet by K24 TV where the station shared her video proclaiming her planned baby-naming moved.

“My baby will be named after @WilliamsRuto once i deliver In shaa Allah. Hiyo siwezi badilisha (That I will not change)?,” she replied.

Another user asked if she would change her mind if the baby turns out to be a girl. Anab did not reply.
