NAIROBI—The governor of Wajir County has rubbished claims doing round on social media that he joined the Jubilee party, saying he will remain a member of the opposition coalition.

Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed said he is in National Supper Alliance (NASA) to stay and won’t decamp to President Uhuru’s party.

”It is a propaganda and rumours. I’m in NASA,” Ahmed confirmed to Kulan Post in text message when we inquired about the alleged change of party.

A fake news post on Friday claimed that the governor joined the ruling coalition in a last minute effort to secure the party nomination. It also claimed that the governor was spotted at the Jubilee headquarters, a claim governor dismissed as baseless.

According to insiders privy to the campaign of the governor, Ahmed was approached by the Jubilee party officials and assured of the backing of the top party officials. It’s claimed that the governor rejected the offer and opted to soldier on with NASA ticket.

Speaking at Wajir Baraza Park in October during a fundraiser in support of local madrasa, governor Ahmed told Mombasa governor who was the chief guest at the event that he would  not leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

”I heard that they are saying I am going to support Jubilee and President Uhuru in next year (this year) elections and leave ODM. I want to be clear that I will remain in ODM,” he said.
