BREAKING NEWS:

NAIROBI : Journalist and film maker Yassin Juma was Saturday night picked from his house in Nairobi by a contingent of police officers who drove him to Muthaiga Police Station where he is being held. The officers were in plain clothes.

Although information about his arrest is scanty, Nairobi-based political activist and former journalist Al Amin Kimathi has confirmed the arrest. According to his friends and colleagues, he was arrested following updates on El Adde attack, information the government has curtailed. He was updating the latest on the attack on his  Facebook   and Twitter accounts.

Investigative journalist of the famed Jicho Pevu programs on KTN, Mohamed Ali alias Moha Jicho Pevu said in a tweet, “Yassin under OB number 52/23/01/2016 was charged with misuse of communication gadgets.”

If what his colleagues believe to be true is anything to go by, then Yassin would be among the journalist arrested since Joseph Nkaisery assumed office in late 2014. On November last year, Nation parliamentary editor John Ngirachu was arrested after he published a story on the spending of the Interior Ministry.

While addressing journalist following uproar by Kenyans over the arrest of the journalist, Nkaissery, a former army general said Ngirachu would be released when he reveals the source of the information he used to write his story. He was later released without revealing his source.
