GARISSA—The alleged sh 4.3 billion debts inherited from former administration that has become talk of town will be audited by  the current administration.

The debt was contained in a report presented to Garissa governor Ali Korane by the assumption of office committee that also organized his swearing in ceremony.

In a separate interview with Kulan Post in his office today, the governor expressed dissatisfaction in the way the previous administration handled county projects  and services.

“The only option is to carry out fresh audit that we believe will give a clear picture of this debt,” Korane said.

Korane instructed the audit team to provide prove of the services that were completed, projects fully implemented and their quality.

“I cannot tell whether the projects meet the standard quality and have been completed. For now we will wait for the fresh audit. ” he added.

According to the  assumption of office report, Garissa county government inherited about sh 4.3 billion debt from previous administration. Most owed to contractors and other service providers.

The department of public service debt stands at sh 17.1 million, trade is sh 141.4million and Health sh 78.3 million. Other departments are Lands (sh 198.5 million), Environment (s 352.7million), Education (sh 224million), Youth and Sports (shs 60.1 million), Water (shs 773.9 million and Finance (shs 973.7 million).
