WAJIR—Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has identified youthful Ahmed Ali Mukhtar as his running mate a week after Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi named his deputy if he defends his seat.

In a deal that was reached at yesterday at a Nairobi hotel, Ahmed Ali Mukhtar alias Mahquul will deputise for the immediate Saudi envoy in an effort to clinch the gubernatorial seat at Wajir County.

Ahmed Ali vied for Wajir South in the last General Election, but was trounced by the incumbent Wajir South MP Abdullahi Diriye.

“He joined Mohamed Abdi as an individual, but his supporters in Wajir South remain loyal to Shaletee verdict,” Mohamed Farhan commented on Facebook.

“We are with you on this (as running mate),’’ Zamzam Mukhtar posted.

At Shaletee in February, the Ogaden Supreme Council fronted Ahmed Muhumed as governor and called on the voters in Wajir County to back his bid.

Unlike Ahmed Abdullahi and Ahmed Muhumed, Mohamed Abdi went for Wajir South to identify a running mate.
