WAJIR—Mohamed Zubeir elders have dismissed the selection of Ali Mukhtar as the deputy governor for Mohamed Abdi, the Wajir gubernatorial candidate on Jubilee ticket.

Speaking to Wajir Community Radio, Mohamed Haji Dakane, the deputy chairman of the Mohamed Zubeir in Wajir county said the decisions was not considered by the clan elders.

“We were not aware of such commitment and we are not party to it,” he said, flanked by the committee members of the clan who similarly distanced themselves from the selection.

“We have been notified that they met Mohamed Abdi claiming that they represent the clan, but I want to assure him that he met individuals, not the clan representatives,” he added.

He condemned the move and called on Wajir county residents to rubbish the announcement of Mohamed Zubeir settling for deputy governor for Mohamed Abdi.

“We have elders. We have politicians. We have community leaders and they are all not party to this announcement and we distance it from the clan,” Mohamed Aidiid, a committee member said.

Mohamed Abdi campaign committee has identified Ali Mukhtar as the deputy governor.
