Pastoral Girl Initiative (PGI) Executive Director Fatuma Kinsi leading activist in there quest to end sexual and gender based violence.

Local  lobby  groups yesterday held procession to end sexual and gender based  violence at the county assembly grounds  that has recently been on the rise  in the county.

The group who is led by former aspirant Fatuma Kinsi marched on the streets of Garissa up to the county assembly grounds to present their grievances ,  urging the local residents to join them in tackling this matter.

Speaking to the press outside the county assembly, Pastoral Girl Initiative (PGI) Executive Director Fatuma Kinsi  said the matter was of great concern and wanted  the county assembly to table a bill that will handle issues concerning gender based violence.

The activist in their petition also demanded the county assembly move to declare issues of sexual and gender based violence in the county as a matter of grave concern.

Fatuma kinsi also said that, besides taking this issue as grave concern  there are  several relevant areas to be spoken about like  to make necessary financial and budgetary decisions to ensure the establishment of gender violence recovery center.

”To   create a hotline number and emergency health care where gender based violence victims can access free medical care and counseling” she said.

They also instructed  county executive to prepare framework for making access to emergency healthcare for gender based violence victims.

The loby groups were from different  groups. which included Haki na sharia, refugee consortium of Kenya (RCK), Silver lining Kenya, and womankind Kenya.

The petition was received by county deputy speaker Mohamed Abass  saying this is your will and let the county assembly  handle the issue within the jurisdiction of the law.

“We have received your petitions and we as the voice of the people we promise to take necessary measures to pass the said  bill.”
