NYERI—The local community in Mandera have conspired to attack the non-local community, Tetu member of parliament Ndung’u Gethenji has said.

Six of the twelve people killed in Mandera attack last week were from Nyeri County.

Speaking at his constituency when he attended a burial ceremony for one of the victims of last week’s attack, Gethenji said the locals may be responsible for the spate of terror attacks in Mandera.

“Reports indicate that Al Shabab was not responsible for the latest attack,” the parliamentary committee chairman for Defense and Foreign Affairs, said.

He was referring to a preliminary report by the North Eastern Regional Coordinator Amb Mohamud Saleh, who said that the October 24th attack was perpetrated by the locals.

“We are not discounting that it is a live possibility. If that is the true position, then the local leaders and the community will have a lot of questions to answer,” the Nyeri politician said.

The government has imposed a dust to dawn curfew in Mandera County.

On Tuesday, a group of militants used explosives to get their way into a guest house—Bishaaro Guest House. At least 12 people were killed in the attack.

In the last two attacks, the security apparatus in the town were aware of the impending attacks, according to the government spokesman Erik Kiraithe while speaking after the first attack on the 7th of October.

In Tuesday’s attack, the survivors said they tipped the area police boss over their fears, but he assured them that everything would be alright.

At least 29 people died of attacks staged by the Somalia based militant group Al Shabab since March this year.

Among the casualties are five police officers killed on the 20th June after they are hit by rocket-propelled grenade believed to have been launched by the group.
