There is a growing concern among residents living along river Tana over fears of outbreak of water borne diseases like cholera, dysentery as the rains continue to hit most parts of the country.

According to a recent weather forecast, the rains will continue to hit most parts of the country until late December.

Most roads within Garissa and Tana River County have been affected due to the ongoing heavy rains affecting the transport.

Talking to Kulan post village elder Idris Hassan who resides in Mororo,Tana river county, said close to 100 families most of those living along the river have been affected and further added that their houses and toilets have been washed away into the flooding river.

Idris said that with no signs of the rains stopping any time soon, they have asked Kenya Red Cross to chip in by erecting tents for the displaced that have since moved to higher grounds.

“Our biggest fear is outbreak of diseases and at such situation we can only trust GOD but we also want necessary intervention from Kenya red cross.” said Idris.

He also added that despite losing their houses they also incurred huge losses from their farms located along the river which were all submerged.

Area county commissioner James Kianda urged the residents who are still living there to take necessary measures as this rains will not stop soon.
