MANDERA—The head of the Jubilee party secretariat Rafael Tuju is today expected in Mandera to open the party’s county headquarters in Mandera town.
Tuju will be accompanied in the visit by the county Senator Billow Kerrow and Hasan Noor Hassan who was nominated by the Garre elders to contest for the gubernatorial seat.
Sources privy to the visit intimates that the governor of Mandera Ali Roba was not invited to attend the opening of the branch office.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed the former Cabinet Minister to head the Jubilee Party secretariat last month when he met the campaign team.
President Kenyatta said the task of the Jubilee campaign team “Is to plan and organise meetings and rallies to explain the Jubilee agenda.”
The visit comes at a time when Jubilee supporters in Mandera County are eagerly awaiting the decision of the party leadership, and Tuju’s visit could seal the deal.
The Garre Council of Elders fronted Hassan Noor Hassan to contest for the gubernatorial position while the incumbent, Cpt Roba alongside the serving elected MP’s, Women Representative and the Senator were asked not to contest in the 2017 election.
Local political analysts are weighing the significance of Tuju’s visit today and what it could mean for the political future of the sitting governor.
