GARISSA—The Talamuge clans in Garissa have endorsed Anab Mohamed Gure as their preferred women representative in the August elections.

Unveiling the list at Masalani in Garissa County, the orgernising committee from the Abuduwaq and the Samawathal clans urged her rivals from the coalition clan—Amina Keynan and Fatuma Kinsi—to give way for Anab to take on the incumbent Shukran Gure.

Shukran Gure hails from the Awlihan clan to which the governor, Nadhif Jama belongs to. There are two other candidates from Awlihan while Anab is the only candidate from Abuduwaq sub-clan.

Ali Korane Bunow was unveiled as the community’s preferred candidate and he will be deputized by Abdi Dakane Muhumed. The serving Garissa County senator will be retained as per the negotiated democracy.

The deputy governor and the senator belong to the Samawathal clan while Ali Korone and Anab Gure are Abuduwaq nominees.

‘’This is not a coalition for destruction, but for enhanced brotherhood and common goal,’’ former chief of staff Mohamud Barrow said at the endorsement drive at Masalani.

He maintained that the coalition would not be used to flare up anti-clan sentiments, saying cohesion and understanding was an important tool for development

Businessman MK Roble said he would rally to make sure Nadhif lose in the elections.

‘’I will make sure I will do everything it takes for the governor to lose and for Bunow to get elected,’’ he said.

The businessman said he would prove that he was not behind Ali Bunow’s defeat in the 2013 gubernatorial race.

“People accuse me as the one who spoilt Bunnow’s opportunity in the last election. I want to prove them wrong by openly supporting him this time round,” he said.

Majority Leader Aden Duale and Yussuf Haji also pledged their support for the line-up and the Jubilee party.
