NAIROBI—National Majority Leader Aden Duale asked the opposition coalition to save Kenyans the frustration of waiting for a flag-bearer and name Raila Odinga as their preferred nominee in a rare move.

Duale made the comment while introducing debate into last week’s State of the Nation presidential address ahead of his reelection bid in August polls.

Referring to the political uncertainty within the National Supper Alliance, the Garissa Township legislator said it would do the country good if the coalition principals settle for the former Prime Minister.

“We have our candidate Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. We have our party, the Jubilee Party. We have our scorecard. We are ready; the referee is ready… we are humbly asking our competitors, we are in the field; we are ready… the crowd has filled the stadium only the other side is not present.”

“I humbly ask, don’t take us round, don’t call too many press conferences, we know who among the pack who is ahead, I have worked with him, he has the numbers, he has the resources, he has the think tank, he has been tested, he has been the Prime Minister, give it to Raila Odinga,” Capital FM quoted him as saying.

While making the comment, Duale outlined some of the achievements Raila made compared to Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.

“Raila stands out among them all,” he stated.

The opposition leaders and their supporters are yet to react to the claim, however on social media the debate on whether Duale should have commented on the NASA political wrangle emerged Wednesday morning.

”Let him not his nose into our business,” Samuale Nyenze said on Facebook.

According to the latest circular, the electoral body IEBC stated that the parties and coalitions have until the 15 of April to name their presidential flag bearer.
