Vihiga governor pledges to support Muslim projects

The newly elected Vihiga county Governor Wilbur Ottichilo has said his government will prioritize and supplement the effort by the Muslim community to ensure Muslim development project are supported.

Ottichilo pointed out that the new constitutional dispensation provides opportunities for people’s participation and engagement in democratic governance and development initiatives at all levels.

Addressing a delegation of Muslim leaders last week at his offices in Mbale town Ottichilo his government would provide financial support to Muslim development projects such as the upliftment of a mosque and the purchase of a piece of land to set up a public cemetery for the Muslim community.

Vihiga County has only one public cemetery for Muslims located at Manyatta area and already the place is full.

Muslims through their leaders had earlier requested Ottichilo to help them secure land for putting up a cemetery and already negotiations with property owner had been completed and Muslims will be handed over the land as soon as the purchase is completed.

“We need to come together to realize development and progress in our county, We as the new administration will endeavour and work closely with Muslim community together with other religious organisations to drive development agenda,” he said.

The Muslim leaders led by Vihiga SUPKEM Chairman Zubeir Shogobe lauded County Government of Vihiga for appointing sister Husna Mudeizi Speaker at the County Assembly.

Muslims Community called on Ottichilo to consider more Muslims professionals in county government appointments for inclusivity and representation.

On Education Ottichilo called upon Muslims in vihiga County to support emerging Islamic educational institutional as a means of improving educational standards in the community.
